The sequel to the wildly successful AW SURVIVOR
Challenges I, II, and III is coming soon! With loads of
improvements over past challenges, this challenge will be the most
exciting yet!
Description
The AW SURVIVOR Challenge IV: Moon Marooned is
lightly based off the CBS television series called SURVIVOR. In
the series, contestants are transported to a remote location and have
to survive in the wilderness for as long as possible while maintaining
good relations with their peers so that they are not "voted
out" of the tribe.
The AW version of the show will pit up to 120
contestants against each other in an all-out battle to survive as long
as possible. While staying online for such a long time may seem
like a huge challenge, the biggest conquest will be mastering
interpersonal relations to avoid being eliminated by tribemates.
There will be no idle limit for this
challenge. While it is to your advantage to be online for as
long as possible during the day, being online is no longer a
requirement. Keep in mind, however, that if you are not online
for all or almost all of the day, it is very likely your tribemates
will remove you from the tribe without your being able to defend
yourself.
The largest part of the challenge is separated
into three parts - community building and chatting, where participants
will have the opportunity to forge alliances and meet their tribemates,
as well as build their base camp; immunity challenges, where tribes
compete against each other to avoid voting off one (or two) members in
the following vote; and tribal councils, where tribes eliminate one or
two members of their own by a majority vote.
After most of the tribes have either one or two
members, all of the tribes will merge into one, and the remainder of
the game will become an individual struggle. Keep in mind that
it is more likely that former fellow tribe members will be sympathetic
to your cause than citizens on other tribes.
Even if you arrive late, you can still
participate in most of the day's events as a spectator. All of
the events, with the exception of those noted otherwise, are open to
everyone, including those not participating in the game and those who
have been eliminated in previous tribal council votes.
In this challenge, all votes will be made with
an automated system, and a bot programmed by Magine will handle all
signups immediately prior to the event. Therefore, arrive
fifteen minutes early to ensure a spot in the game. Tourists, in
addition to citizens, may participate to win prizes. In the
event of a tourist winning a free world, the tourist will be offered a
free citizenship in its place.
Special guest Mountain Myst will be attending
the game. In addition, another "incognito" AW staff
member will be participating in the challenge. Be careful - you never
know who you'll be voting for next!
More information and updates will be posted on
this page as the event draws closer.
History
The AW SURVIVOR Challenge series has had a
robust history. Here are some highlights:
AW SURVIVOR Challenge I
Winner: XelNaga
Participants: 32
Theme: Island
4 tribes, 8 members each
Date: September 23, 2000
Maximum number of spectators: 55
The first AW SURVIVOR Challenge was a testament
to the efforts of many hard-working AWTeen citizens. Organized
in little less than two weeks, everything from signups to immunity
challenges was handled manually by tribal leaders who volunteered to
supervise one tribe each. Though some technical difficulties
were encountered, the highlight of the day was a trivia challenge
where fifty citizens vied for immunity. The final vote was
decided when ChickenGurl, who had placed eighth, was AFK during the
voting process, so another citizen's vote turned the tables toward
XelNaga, who emerged victorious after seven hours of surviving on a
desert island.
AW SURVIVOR Challenge II: Frozen Desert
Winner: Angemon
Participants: 64
Theme: Winter Mountain
8 tribes, 8 members each
Date: March 10, 2001
Maximum number of spectators: 72
Delayed due to object path difficulties in
early January, the sequel to the first SURVIVOR challenge was
rescheduled to March 10, 2001. The challenge represented a turn
toward a more original game, as opposed to the first challenge, which
mirrored the CBS TV show to the letter. Held on a winter
mountain at the site of AWTeen's Date That Geek, held a few weeks
earlier, all attention was directed at Nornny's custom-designed tribal
council area, which utilized 3.1 light commands for the first time in
a major event. Highlights included wacky races where
participants crawled across precarious poles high in the sky and a
photo finish where Angemon was declared the winner in another 4-3
vote.
AW SURVIVOR Challenge III: Mysterious Depths
Winner: XelNaga
Participants: 90
Theme: Ocean Floor
9 tribes, 10 members each
Date: June 9, 2001
Maximum number of spectators: 84
The third SURVIVOR challenge was the first to
feature a fully automated bot system to handle member tracking,
voting, and other tasks previously reserved for team leaders. As
a result, team leaders weren't needed at the third challenge. So
many people attended the event that a paintball bot that could only
handle up to fifty avatars at one time malfunctioned! XelNaga,
who won for the second time, disguised himself as a mysterious citizen
named Rebirth to eliminate suspicion, and then revealed his identity
after the final tribal council. This challenge was the only one
to be headed by former Major Events Committee leader Nornny, renowned
for his originality in designing the immunity challenges.
Positions Available
The following positions are available and are
needed to make SURVIVOR IV a success. Unless otherwise noted,
the people who choose to accept these positions may participate in the
challenge.
Event Hosts (7): sPITFiRE, Poseidon, Allen
Iverson, Zaakir, XelaG, Brant, BasiX - Responsibilities
include preparing, setting up, explaining the rules to, and running
one or two immunity challenges. These citizens may not
participate in the challenge.
JAMs (8-12): Anton, FairiePrincess,
Mix Master, SpunkyMonkey, Sleeper, at least 3 spots
remaining - These citizens will take
one or two-hour shifts and chat at the ground zero of the SURVIVOR
area while the game is going on to answer questions of those who
arrive at SURVIVOR GZ to watch the game and to direct everyone to the
next event. These citizens may participate in the challenge and
JAM if they are eliminated.
Statistician (1): Coryashire - The
statistician must keep up to date statistics about various aspects of
the game, such as who remains on which tribe, how many people are in
attendance, who was eliminated from the game and in what order, and
how many votes were made against each participant. These
statistics will be used in the case of a tied vote or in later
immunity challenges.
Graphics Designer (1): Glofur - Needed to design
the flags for each tribe's area (up to 12 tribes).
Send an E-Mail to
awteen@shoemakervillage.org
if you would like to
volunteer for any of the above positions.

a gem, it is removed, and another gem appears somewhere else in
the world. The team with the most points at the end of

other factors. The tribe with the best base camp will be
immune from the fifth tribal council.
Host: Zaakir
|

A 15-minute break is offered
to all players. This break will be eliminated from the
schedule if the event is running late. |
6:00PM |
Tribes merge. At this
point, the schedule will depend on how many members remain from
each of the former tribes. Immunity challenges will
continue non-stop with a vote and then a ten minute break
between each challenge. Challenges will include (in this
order):
- Space Adventure Immunity Challenge:
Players start at the SURVIVOR area and must locate and click
on an object that will teleport them to a different
area. At the next area, they must locate another
object to teleport again, and so on. The player who
reaches the goal first wins immunity for his or her tribe.
Host: sPITFIRE
- Wacky Races: Players move
across dangerous obstacle courses high in the sky. The
first to the goal wins, but if you fall off, you lose!
Host: Brant
- Red Alert: Players line up in
front of a number of triggers one more than the number of
players. Each clicks on his or her trigger, and if the
wrong one is chosen, the bomb explodes and you lose!
The last one standing wins immunity. Host: Allen
Iverson
- Nornny's Choice: Nornny gets to
choose who is immune. There are no rules governing who
he might choose, so you better get friendly with him fast!
Host: Nornny
- Destruction Mayhem: The
remaining players are led to separate zones, each of which
is filled with junk objects. At a specific time,
players are allowed to begin destroying the zone as quickly
as possible. The first person to delete all of the
objects in his or her zone is declared the winner.
Host: TBD
|
TBA |
When there are two remaining
players, the jury will return to the SURVIVOR set. There
will be a half hour break while the final revelation is
prepared, allowing the jury to converse and the survivors to
prepare their arguments. When the half hour is over, each
of the survivors will be allowed two minutes to convince the
jury of his or her merits. After, each of the jury members
will be allowed to ask one question of both contestants.
Finally, a jury vote will be held, and, with spectacular special
effects, the winner will be announced. |
9:00PM or before |
The challenge concludes. |
