Cape Breton Highlands National Park was the first national park in the Atlantic provinces of Canada and covers an area of 948 square kilometers, or about one-third of the Cabot Trail's driving distance. The village of Cheticamp is located at the western edge of the park.
The park's terrain includes mountains, valleys, forests, waterfalls, coastlines, and a tundra plateau.
