The town of Annapolis Royal was the capital of Acadia and Nova Scotia for 150 years until Halifax was founded in 1749. The core of the city is designed as a National Historic Site, in recognition of the pivotal events that occurred in the town. In recent years, the main industry in Annapolis Royal was government contracting, but the closure of several military bases has made tourism the primary business.
Annapolis Royal contains the amenities of any small town, so you'll be provided with a casual dinner in the evening after visiting the day's main attraction, the Annapolis Royal Gardens. If time permits, you may elect to walk around the historic citadel and other monuments in the downtown core.
